South African Sign Language 12th Official Language

The Multilingualism Education Project (MEP) Director, who is also the Chairperson of the Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB), on the 19th of July 2023 at the Union Buildings in Pretoria witnessed the signing ceremony when the South African Sign Language (SASL) was made one of the 12 official languages of South Africa. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries including the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture; the Chairperson of PanSALB as well as the CEO PanSALB. It was indeed a historic moment in South Africa for the Deaf community and the language fraternity in the promotion of multilingualism in the country.
