The Unbundled University: Researching emerging models in an unequal landscape. 

A delegation of researchers including Alan Cliff, Laura Czerniewicz and Sukaina Walji of CILT discuss the research findings and implications with policy leaders from the DHET and CHE. 

PhD for Dr Medee Rall

Medee Rall was awareded her PhD at UCT's April 2019 graduation ceremeony.  This is the fourth degree for the Director of the Centre for Extra-Mural Studies. Her thesis focused on the way the San were depicted during our colonial, apartheid and post-1994 eras. 

EMS hosts mini Summer School for Just Grace learners. 

On Saturday 30 March EMS hosted a special mini Summer School for learners from Just Grace, a community upliftment project in Langa that offers academic support, mentoring, training, career guidance, life skills and post-school preparation. 

The Writing Centre has temporarily relocated to the Knowledge Commons in the Chancellor Oppenheimer Library, adjoining the Hlanganani building.  Most of the Writing Centre activities will take place from the Knowledge Commons. To make a booking with a Writing Consultant, students can register and log on to the online booking system: https://uct.mywconline.com/  For writing consultations, students are required to make their way to Study Room 9 in the Knowledge Commons, and a Consultant will assist them.  For other queries, the Writing Centre Administrator, Gadija Arend, can be contacted on 021 650 5021.

Farewell Deslynne! 

Close colleagues and friends said goodbye to Deslynne Davids, Executive Assistant to the Dean, who leaves CHED after more than 8 years to pursue a post in finance elsewhere at UCT.  The move fits in with Deslynne's career aspirations.  She completed a B Com Hons in Finance and Industrial Psychology at UWC in 2018 and is currently doing her Masters in Industrial Psychology.  All this while working in this demanding position in the Dean's Office.  Former Dean, Professor Suellen Shay, alongside whom Deslynne worked the longest, reminisced about her capacity to be "unflappable" and her flawless handling of high-stake administrative processes. During her time in this role, since February 2011, Deslynne has served under five deans (substantive, acting and interim) and accumulated many friends among her former colleagues all of which wish Deslynne, 'Des', 'Desi' the very best in her new role just across the P9 parking lot in Statistical Sciences (PD Hahn)..
