The Centre for Higher Education Development (CHED) stands at the forefront among South African universities, renowned for its unwavering commitment to advancing redress, equity, and access within the higher education sector as depicted in the figure above.
In keeping with its mission, CHED conducts research to inform educational development practice in higher education at UCT and also nationally and internationally. In addition, CHED research aims to contribute to building the theoretical research field broadly defined as higher education studies.
CHED researchers conduct research individually and/or collaboratively. Some faculty-based CHED researchers also conduct disciplinary research in research centres located in their faculties.
CHED research outputs include peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and conference papers. CHED scholarship also forms the basis of opinion pieces in online media and our researchers also produce research-based policy, institutional reports, and curriculum development-related outputs. Many of these outputs are available on OpenUCT.
