This research project is funded by the Carnegie Corporation and is undertaken together with the universities of Johannesburg, Pretoria and Free State.

It investigates how students and academics have been negotiating the opportunities and challenges of blended learning in challenging circumstances of the South African Higher Education sector. The aim is to find out not only the strategies employed, but also perceptions, concerns, opportunities and unintended consequences of technology in education during periods including disruptions or shutdowns.
